Sunday services at Unity of Portland will leave you
feeling inspired, blessed and ready to experience the richness of life.
Messages back to March 15, 2015.
Almost 200 to choose from.
At 11:00 a.m. Sunday we hold a hour-long "Soul Celebration" Unity service.
You can expect to find a loving community, filled with friendly people and families from all different lifestyles. Wherever you are in your life's journey, Unity of Portland is here for you. We lovingly invite you to visit us and discover what maybe your new spiritual home. Sunday services at Unity of Portland will leave you feeling inspired, blessed and ready to experience the richness of life.
At the beginning of the service, the minister will ask if there are any newcomers and (if you’re comfortable doing so) to raise a hand so that ushers may deliver a welcome folder with information about this community.
Our Sunday services are best summed up as “music, meditation, message.”
The music will vary between our in-house band, the choir, guest performers/soloists, and some congregation-wide singing which will always have the lyrics projected on a screen. A guided meditation will last 5-7 minutes, followed by the minister’s main message which combines spirituality, science, and ancient wisdom.
Our Sunday services include:
Hearing the Daily Word, Greeting one another, Music
A time for prayer and silent meditation
At the end of the service, our children, and youth are honored. If you bring children to the 11 am service, the greeter will direct you downstairs where children are signed into their special Sunday Soul Celebration.
At the conclusion of the service, the children are brought into the Sanctuary for a brief time to be with us, sing the Peace Song and interact with us. They will go back downstairs so you can sign them out. Alternately, your children are welcome to stay with you during the service.
Guided Meditation in the Chapel
Youth/Teen Celebration Services:
After the service, congregants gather downstairs in our Friendship Hall for coffee, tea and fellowship. Here you'll have a chance to meet others, ask questions, and pick up materials about upcoming events and ongoing activities within our spiritual community. We also have a Welcome Table just outside our Sanctuary where you can pick up an informational packet about Unity of Portland, and get answers to any other questions you may have.
We look forward to having you with us!

A message from our Music Director, Rev.Sydney Lehman Steen
Our mission is to support all of our services with music that is positive, powerful, and professional. We combine energy with creativity--and an occasional dose of humor, and we LOVE what we do!
Unity of Portland is a wonderful community of Truth seekers and spiritual beings having amazing human experiences!
The music program consists of a regular professional band of seasoned and versatile musicians, and an enthusiastic group of back-up singers, the Glory Singers.
I come to this position from a long background of professional jazz recording, performing and composing. I also spent many years in Los Angeles as a pianist, keyboardist, arranger, vocalist and song writer.
I currently live in Newberg with my husband, my son, three unique cats, and our dog, Hector. I grew up in New Thought, and I gotta tell you, this stuff works!
It is my deepest hope that you find joy and meaning in our services and our community.
If you are a singer with some experience and you like find out more about requirements and possible openings in the Glory Singers, or if you are a soloist with lots of experience and you would like to find out about solo opportunities, contact me and tell me about yourself through the contact form.
Join your voice with others and journey to the center of your Being with toning, chants and sacred songs of celebration and remembrance. No prior singing experience required; all paths welcome. $15 Love offering requested. No one turned away. What is toning — extending a tone or syllable for the length of an exhale . . . just like in singing but without needing to remember lyrics or hit the “right note”. It can be fun and playful and it can also be used to express feelings that you can’t (or don’t want) to put into words, in a way that allows you to metabolize the emotional energy and bring healing where it’s needed. There has been lot of research showing many mental and physical health benefits of singing … . ~ increases oxygen uptake ~ uplifts mood ~ enhances immunity ~ helps manage pain~ increases mental acuity and ability to learn and retain information ~ actually helps reverse some of the symptoms of dementia ~ and more Toning has all that without the requirement to sound pretty.
